With all that is going on with this war it has been very hard to deal with all the discrimination that has been going on. The only thing that I did notice was that I am not the only one that is being discriminated against. Asian Americans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans, and also other African Americans are being discriminated against as well. Most of the times when we were on our own we would stay in groups of out. Although most of us went into our separate groups at times, we all had the same feeling about how we were being treated for what we were doing. One of my good friends told me something the other day that I really took into consideration. He said “Why die for democracy for some foreign country when we don't even have it here?" (qdt. Denzer 564) When I actually stopped and thought about this it really meant something to me. I don't even know why I am doing this when basically nothing is turning out good for me.

We, the blacks, were treated very badly. The people of the world just thought that we were nothing in society, but we attempted to still do our best and fight for our nation. My personal reason for why I decided to fight for my country was because I believed that if we all fought for our country and sacrificed our lives we could prove to everyone that we were equals ("African, 1)

I did notice that one of the Latino men that were serving with me was getting harassed pretty bad and was just not getting any fair treatment just like the rest of us. Although they were getting harassed pretty badly they still do believe that this was a very big turning point for them (Rascon, 1).He told us that he thought "“Those people were very racist. There was discrimination, yeah, I was told by a first sergeant that I would never go anywhere in that division because I was a Mexican. Mexicans always got the kitchen detail or guard duty. I knew that was why they were doing it” (qtd. Rascon, 1).
